Surface or storm water entering a sewage treatment plant completely disrupts the biological process, and into a pump station as in this case, it can cause the pumps to run on more than they were specified to, causing them to burn out sooner.

CM’s confined space engineers worked hard on this one for an amazing finish. Civils installed the concrete ring chamber, and our lads fit it out as a pump station in 1-2 days. PCCR pump stations can be a more cost effective solution for various reasons: difficult ground such as high water table or sand makes installation easier and increases longevity if made properly water tight; less ready mix concrete is generally required; installing in a driveway or car park can mean more strength. Planned out of hours work at a service station we maintain. Desludge and service (with some remedial tasks) on the sewage treatment plant, which involved our confined space entry engineers, and also cleanse & empty the 5no grease traps on site.
We don’t do 24/7 emergency call outs, but we will always try to work around the needs of our customers wherever possible.

It’s a big one down at Hanningfield Reservoir for @essexwildlifetrust but despite the weather being against us, we are chuffed with the results! A Shore 120 Treatment Plant supplied and installed, along with associated grease trap and pumped outlet, including some moling under the road to avoid disruption. A few weeks of work condensed to 90 seconds. Another cracking job by the CM Team!

Not every site is straightforward! This one posed several issues for CM to overcome, namely installing a rising main under a stream and hitting water at 300mm, all the while, maintaining the historic nature of the property.
But as always, we got there in the end 👌🏻and now this beautiful home can rest easy that its drainage is top notch. Nice job!

Sewage Treatment Plant vs Septic Tank

One of the most common questions we are asked here at CM is what is the difference between a septic tank and a sewage treatment plant. A septic tank is effectively a holding tank for solids, so depending on usage, it will need emptying frequently and will require a drainage field (or soakaway) designing (to British Standards) and installing in order to treat the foul water before it enters the ground. With a sewage treatment plant however, the treatment takes place through a biological process within the unit, so it can discharge directly into a ditch or watercourse safely. Like a septic tank, a treatment plant can also discharge to a drainage field, but this will be smaller than the one required for a septic tank because it is only draining as no treatment is required.

Any sites' requirements are very individual as to the best solution; we have to consider ground conditions, electricity access, regulations, locations, usage, levels... which is why a site visit is always advisable.

All of our CM engineers are British Waters accredited and all CM staff are fully equipped to answer questions about the Environment Agency's 2020 regulations regarding updating septic tank systems to sewage treatment plants, so please do give us a call if you need any further information.

Our Shore tanks come with a standard 600mm invert. But these invert risers make installation much easier. They can be bolted onto the top of the tank with ease. And lead time is 1-3 working days so we can get them out to you when speed is needed on site 👌🏻

**Our tanks are tested up to 1100mm. Anything deeper and you would need to consult a structural engineer as a concrete slab is required**
